Clothing The Community Campaign

November 1st – November 30th, 2024

Overview:
A month-long initiative aimed at supporting community clothing needs through donation drives, thrift shopping activities, and a closing fashion event. The campaign focuses on breaking down barriers by providing access to essential clothing while promoting sustainable fashion and raising awareness about the environmental and social benefits of reusing clothing. The campaign aligns with SDG goals 10 (Reduced Inequalities), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production), and 13 (Climate Action).

CAMPAIGN BREAKDOWN:

Clothing the Community - Launch Event (invite only)

  • Date: Friday, November 1st, 2024

  • Time: 12 PM – 1 PM

  • Location: SDG Idea Factory

  • Goal: Kick-off of clothing drive with community members, partners, politicians, etc.

 

The Thrift-Off (Thrift Shopping Activity)

  • University of Waterloo clubs will select team members who will take on the challenge of curating an outfit that reflects their unique style while staying within the budget.

  • Date: November 2nd – November 29th, 2024 (activity ongoing through the month)

  • Goal: Encourage sustainable clothes shopping through a thrift store challenge for university clubs.

Fashionably Thrifted -  Closing Event

  • Date: Saturday, November 30th, 2024

  • Time: 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM

  • Location: SDG Collabor8 Space

  • Entrance Fee: Free Admission

  • Goal: Celebrating the clothing drive’s  success by promoting sustainable fashion, encouraging creativity with thrifted outfits, and highlighting the social and environmental benefits of reusing clothing.

Main Goals:

  • Support community clothing needs (SDG 10)

  • Raise awareness on sustainable fashion (SDGs 11, 12, 13)

  • Engage local university clubs and community partners.
